Legal Counsel
Nwukabu A. Abama
Nwukabu A. Abama is a Legal Counsel at the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF), where she provides technical and operational support to African governments in structuring and negotiating complex commercial transactions, creditor litigation, and sovereign-related matters across the Facility's key sectors.
Prior to joining the ALSF, Nwukabu was Legal Adviser at TotalEnergies EP Nigeria CPFA Ltd, where she advised on corporate and development finance projects across various asset classes. Her work included negotiating and drafting limited partnership agreements in sectors such as project finance, real estate, power, and banking, as well as advising on equity investment in a landmark African climate-resilient infrastructure fund. Within the Corporate Secretariat, she managed corporate governance, board administration, and led the revision of the Board of Directors’ Charter.
In an earlier role, Nwukabu served as a Dispute Resolution Associate, representing clients in litigation and arbitration across sectors such as energy, trade, telecommunications, and banking, demonstrating expertise in regulatory and contentious matters.
Her interdisciplinary expertise includes contributing to policy recommendations at the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform, where she addressed the nexus between climate change and conflict in Baringo County, Kenya. At the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA), she helped facilitate the mobilization of Member States' support for humanitarian initiatives addressing food insecurity and climate fragility in North-East Nigeria.
Called to the Nigerian Bar, Nwukabu holds a Master’s in International Affairs from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva, and an LLB from the University of Southampton. She is also an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK).
